All my life I went to church and tried to do the right thing. However, it wasn’t until college that I understood the sinfulness of my heart and that no matter how hard I tried I could never reach God’s standard of perfection on my own. Fall semester of my second year at Troy one of the Campus Outreach (CO) staff was speaking at their weekly campus meeting about 2 Corinthians 5:21. He used an analogy to help draw the picture that Jesus who was perfect and without sin, took the punishment that I deserved because of my God denying sin and gave me his perfect record, providing a way to truly know God and making me his son.
Growing more in my walk with Christ through the ministry of Campus Outreach and the local church I began to learn more about what the Great Commission was and that there’s a great need for all people to know the gospel. I was then given the opportunity to come on staff and be a part of the mission of CO. My personal vision in joining staff with CO is that students would be sent out to the broken and hurting contexts of our world to provide real hope. Even further, I want to see more African American males come to faith and raised up as leaders in their families and communities. Overall, I look forward to having new friendships with young men who, like myself, come to know Jesus in a personal way that changes their lives forever.
